Report: NBA Considers Shortened Season in Las Vegas

NBA officials are hoping to wrap up the 2019-2020 basketball season by Labor Day, sources say.

A report published Tuesday by ESPN claims league officials are discussing holding the season’s championship game over Labor Day weekend. Doing so would likely involve trimming down the regular season’s number of games, of which most teams have between 13 and 16 left to play, the sports media outlet reports, citing unidentified sources.

NBA execs are also considering cutting down the best of seven playoff series to the best of five, sources say.

If the shortened season is approved, it will likely be completed in empty stadiums in an effort to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, per ESPN.

Not that fans would be able to watch their favorite teams, anyway — NBA officials are reportedly considering moving the entire league to Las Vegas for the remainder of the season, ESPN reports.
